Homelessness and addiction are often intertwined, with substance abuse a common cause for homelessness in present day Australia. However, it’s important to remember that not all that are homeless choose to become addicted or live rough on the streets, but challenging events throughout their life have often led to these unfortunate situations.

Approximately 116,000 Australians are homeless each week on any given night and in Melbourne alone, 43% of the homeless population reported that they had alcohol and drug use problems. These numbers highlight the need for support for those suffering these from homelessness and substance abuse.

Thankfully, there are organisations and groups in Australia who make it their mission to provide support and safety for those who are homeless or suffer from addiction. One of these organisations is Transformations Program Queensland.

Transformations Program Australia is a not-for-profit, faith-based, non-government charity that focuses on providing rehabilitation services for those suffering from a range of issues including drug addiction, homelessness, destitution, prostitution and mental health. It provides recovery accommodation and supportive services to help vulnerable people through troubling times.

The success rate of Transformations Program Australia is 77%, with over 3000 Australians having been able to get their life back on track thanks to this organisation.

After having made a donation to Transformations Australia last year, The Lottery Office is proud to donate a further $5,000 to Transformations Program Australia to help carry out bathroom renovations in one of their residential facilities on the Gold Coast.

Jaclyn Wood, General Manager of The Lottery Office, knows that this donation will be put to good use in helping improve accommodation for Gold Coast participants.

“Everyone should be given a helping hand when they need it most and Transformations Program Australia is a great organisation that offers this to some of the most vulnerable people in our community,” Ms Wood said.

“We are proud to be supporting Transformations Program Australia once again so that they can continue their amazing work.

The Lottery Office urges anyone who can spare some change this festive season to consider donating to Transformations Program Australia and help out those who desperately need our support.”
