An Australian-based lottery operator selling real lottery tickets has become the first to give Aussies a legitimate way to win millions from draws of overseas lotteries – and just in time for a potential $2.2 billion payday.
The launch of The Lottery Office comes as the US Mega Millions lottery hit a world-record jackpot of more than AUD$2.2billion*. The US Powerball jackpot is also currently a massive AUD$875 million*, a combined total of over AUD$3 Billion*!
The Lottery Office General Manager Jaclyn Mundey said the company was the first Australian-owned and licensed online operator to offer a secure way for Australians to win from draws including the US Mega Millions, US Powerball and EuroMillions.
“Unlike ‘lottery betting’, which will be outlawed in Australia from January 9th, The Lottery Office does not offer bets on the outcome of overseas lottery draws, nor does it rely on insurers to pay out winnings,” she said.
“We are the only business that issues the customer with a government-authorised Lottery Office ticket, and then we purchase a matching ticket in the overseas lottery draw.
“The customer’s Lottery Office ticket includes exactly the same draw details as the overseas lottery, and guarantees them a legal contract with us.
“If the customer wins, we pay them the exact amount of the winnings we collect from the ticket. By buying a matching ticket in the overseas lottery, The Lottery Office can guarantee all winnings will be paid out.
“The Lottery Office is monitored through an online auditing portal where licensing regulators can verify that we obtain matching lottery tickets for the orders we receive and pay out the exact amount of winnings we receive from successful tickets.”
The US Mega Millions is one of America’s two big jackpot lotteries and has been running for more than 15 years. The lottery’s current jackpot (USD1.6billion) is the highest prize of all time. Mega Millions has been jackpotting since July and was by an office syndicate from California.
